My OTSP Secret Sister this past round has been amazing, generous, and very clever. I’m so in love with the whole #OTSPSecretSister project and community, to be honest. But to get to keep up a written correspondence (with both my gifting to and gifting from sisters), as well as come home each month to curated box of gifts has been a blessing.
In February: Shakespeare
Shakespeare by Another Name (I researched back in high school the likelihood of Shakespeare’s plays being written by Edward de Vere. Even though I’ve toured Shakespeare’s home now, with the world’s best docent, I still favor the theory that de Vere wrote at least some of the plays attributed to William Shakespeare, and have been itching to read this for some time. Also Shakespeare’s Rebel, Shakespeare flavor lip balms, Shakespeare Mad Libs, and Shakespeare bookmarks. So much Bard loveliness!
In March: Medieval/D&D
A pre-order of Naomi Novik’s Spinning Silver (*kermit dance of joy*), a lovely wooden dice holder, a D8 bath bomb, and a great Game of Thrones quote.
In April: Harry Potter
(and it arrived on the Battle of Hogwarts anniversary)
Lion mask Luna Lovegood, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor nail polishes, “Bertie Bott’s beans” that I can eat with my dietary restrictions, the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and a Ministry of Magic vinyl (am now bugging Fedora to get black toilets so we can put this on one).
In May: Jane Austen/Romance
A leather-like Mansfield Park (the second in my collection of these Jane Austen word cloud quote covers), Jane Austen postcards, sealing wax, a sealing wax fleur-de-lis stamp, and wax pourer, and false eyelash tweezers (which I have been needing, as I valiantly try to master falsies).
In June: Geekfest
Between May and June is when I discovered that my secret sister is the fabulous (poet, artist, teacher, and keeper of a fantastic smile) Michelle Greco! Despite being in the middle of a big move, she compiled and sent this lovely geek compilation: Wonder Woman FunkoPOP (now next to my Etta Candy and Hippolyta pops at work), Dining with the Doctor (a Dr Who cookbook that I can’t wait to dig into), a MoYou London nail stamping set all Shakespeare (making my little heart flutter!), neon paper for correspondence, a huge packet of colored gel pens (including neon….muahahaha!), and stickers. So basically, geek cooking, geek empowerment, geek creative prettification, and happy bright stationery. Does it get any better than this?! I think not.
In July: Fairy Tales
Michelle totally spoiled me this entire round, and the July package was definitely a culmination. Despite the fact that she’s in the middle of a move, new job prep, new town, etc., she sent me this lovely La Papierre stationery (which I had admired earlier this year- we share an obsession with that Etsy-based stationery company), Beast FunkoPOP (gah! so cute it burns!), Moana and Pua FunkoPOPs (did I mention Moana is my fav Disney movie these days?), Spinning Silver (which she preordered for me back in March, so antici…………………………………………..pation!), The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back (which I’ve had on my list forever but it’s been difficult to find), and The Whiskey Sea (after my trip to Chicago, this historical fiction bootlegging tale is really intriguing).
This project is about more than the goodies, though! Throughout the past six months, Michelle has been a wonderful penpal, giving me encouragement and telling me about her life and generally connecting (even before I knew her identity). She’s really put a lot of thought and effort into writing consistently (which takes dedication- I’m still figuring out how to do that, myself) and I can’t wait to continue getting to know her, and following along on her upcoming adventures.

I’m a coffee-fueled, hobby-addicted bibliophage who makes cruelty-free mineral eye shadows (inspired by novels). I’m usually in front of a screen (writing, reading, or gaming), but I’ve been known to emerge for geekery, good food, and dark chocolate.
