Nerdy drinks? Well this one is a gimme. I mean, I used to be a bartender at a geek-themed bar and restaurant here. I mixed (and memorized) over 50 drinks inspired straight from fandoms- TV shows, movies, books, video games, comics, you name it. Before I went on the keto diet, Fedora and I were *still* playing around, making mixed drinks inspired by our favorite geek things.
Not all geek and fandom drinks sound tasty, but here are my favorites:
Consumed on the dirt-poor planet of Higgin’s Moon, this drink has all the protein, vitamins, and carbs of your grandma’s best turkey dinner, plus 15 percent alcohol. The flavor is never mentioned, so most fan-creations are a boozy protein shake sort of thing (which, to me, sounds disgusting). If they ever make liquid-soluble synthetic protein and liquid-soluble flavorless multivitamins, I’m totally making this AND IT WILL BE DELICIOUS.
OK, so I’m not a fan of overly sweet things. I don’t drink soda, I dislike cupcakes (frosting, really), I prefer my dark chocolate 80% dark or higher, I don’t add sugar to my drinks. I did not expect to enjoy butterbeer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (though I admit the drink within the book series sounds fun). Lo and behold, it’s amazing. Hot, chilled, iced, and as soft serve, I could not get enough. The drink is like a buttery butterscotch with a creamy mouthfeel, the topping is like a fresh-baked shortbread. And no faux recipe replicates it.
Tastes like mead, revives like caffeine, and heals. I need this. I need this every damn day.
This distinctive drink from Battlestar Galactica is known for being potent. It’s named after the consumable that keeps the Greek pantheon immortal, and given the Greek gods/goddesses themes in BSG (both old and new), that’s fitting.
A drink that’s illegal due to potency, and a beautiful blue color. What’s not to enjoy? (Bonus: If you can get Guynan to serve it, you can have some excellent advice and That Look as a chaser).
I’m a coffee-fueled, hobby-addicted bibliophage who makes cruelty-free mineral eye shadows (inspired by novels). I’m usually in front of a screen (writing, reading, or gaming), but I’ve been known to emerge for geekery, good food, and dark chocolate.
