Technically, this prompt was for last week, but last week was crazyballsbusy, so I had to table it until today.
Given the number of fandoms I resisted getting into initially, then absolutely ADORED, I try to check out each one that stumbles across my path.
And I do try to keep an open mind. But some fandoms….they’re just not my bowl of Cheerios.
I made it through two seasons, but then it just wasn’t good enough to keep me watching. I don’t watch TV because I’m bored, I watch TV because the show is compelling. So if it’s a chore to keep going, I don’t. I have a feeling a lot of the fandom over this involved nostalgia for “the first time I saw this, I was…”.
Granted, I haven’t seen it, only listened to the tracks. But I’m a big musicals fan and I love history, so this SHOULD have been right up my alley. But considering I can’t understand a damn thing anyone is singing, it isn’t. Seriously, it’s like opera for all that I understand the lyrics.
I do love zombies, but I never made it past the first 3 episodes. Partly that was because it was a damned tense show, and I like to be able to sleep sometimes. Partly it was because Rick, his wife, and his partner/his wife’s new partner annoyed the crap out of me. And why do people love Daryl? He’s a racist asshole! I may finish the series someday, but it definitely didn’t grab me as a fandom.
This one makes Fedora sad, as he lovedy loves Avatar. But honestly, I liked the original better (“Dances with Wolves”). I get sick of the ‘white man saves the natives’ storyline, and no amount of pretty CGI (or actors) can make shallow storylines engage with me.
Not even Christina Hendricks could make me care about this show. Watching it was like taking Valium and hating myself.
I’m a coffee-fueled, hobby-addicted bibliophage who makes cruelty-free mineral eye shadows (inspired by novels). I’m usually in front of a screen (writing, reading, or gaming), but I’ve been known to emerge for geekery, good food, and dark chocolate.
